Teamwork to make the dream work

of any-one’s success whether it be on the playing field, in business or in relationships. It really does take team work to make the dream work. When working with a team you always have someone on your side, you have other strengths you can use and weaknesses you can overcome and your commitment levels will be much higher as you have someone else relying on you.

Let’s first define teamwork. YourDictionary defines teamwork as the actions of individuals, brought together for a common purpose or goal, which subordinate the needs of the individual to the needs of the group. In essence, each person on the team puts aside his or her individual needs to work towards the larger group objective. The interactions among the members and the work they complete is called teamwork.

Here lies the power and value of teamwork and is where the saying “There is no ‘i’ in team” comes from. There’s real power in having  a unified team working towards a common goal or purpose. Whenever we set out to achieve anything in life there are always going to be wins, losses and moments when you feel the hurdles are just too great and you just can’t go on anymore, . If you are working on your own, your more likely to quit. It’s just too easy to do so. When you win, there’s no one to share in your triumph and there’s no one there to encourage you and pick you up through your losses. The losses are easier and the victories are sweeter when you work as a team.

The importance of teamwork also lies in the ability to mastermind with others. Napoleon Hill talks about how this is the most important factor of success:

The  cooperative alliance between 3 or more people working for the attainment of a definite purpose has been the basis for nearly every great fortune made.

Everyone has their own particular strengths and weaknesses and their particular way of viewing and creating. Relying on just yourself to foster your growth and creativity is really going to limit your success. Jean Paul Getty says

I would rather earn 1% off a 100 people’s efforts than 100% of my own efforts.

When you work as part of a team there will always be someone you can rely on who has strengths in areas where you have a big weakness. You will also be able to overpower someone else’s weakness with your strength. You will therefore always have a strong powerful team working together to attain your common goal or purpose, plugging up all the weak holes. On Team Makepeace, Craig is the details person, whereas I am the big picture person. What a great team we make then. A big picture person can’t put the details together to make it happen. Craig is great at doing this. Each of our strengths override the other’s weakness.

Working as part of a team forces you to bring a higher level of commitment to what you are doing. You have to because the team’s success is dependent on you showing up and what you bring to the common purpose. Craig played professional rugby for several years. If he didn’t show up for training he would be on the bench for the game as he couldn’t benefit the team. He wouldn’t know the plays they had practiced and would have missed building the essential team unity. Even though his individual skills brought incredible value to the team, these still remained subordinate to the needs of the team.  There is no ‘i’ in team. You have a part to play in the eventual success of the team’s goal. If you don’t show up or do your part you let down the team.

Craig and I understand the value, importance and benefits of teamwork having played sport for many years.  ‘It takes teamwork to make the dream work’ has always been the motto of our marriage. Vilfredo Pareto, an Italian economist , observed that 20% of the people in Italy had 80% of the wealth and so was formed the concept of the Pareto principle or the 80 20 rule. You can apply this rule to any aspect of your personal or business life. The 80 2o rule is a rule that states 20% of the people do 80% of the work and are rewarded as such. Whereas 80% of the population receive 20% of the world’s wealth as a result of their inability to make decisions and take actions that will launch themselves into the top 20%

How and why does this happen? 20% of people receive 80% of the wealth because they put up their hand to accept it, no matter what, and in return provide service and value to others.

What are the differences between an 80%  and 20% thinker?

Problem Versus Opportunity

80% thinkers see everything as being a problem. If they even take time to remove themselves from the comfy couch to think of a unique and creative idea they will see all the reasons why it won’t work and how life is too unfair to them to allow it to work. An 80% thinker often says “It’s too expensive”,  “I don’t have enough time”,  “I don’t know how to do it, nothing ever works for me.”  “I tried it and they said no.” or “It’s just too hard!”

A 20% thinker sees everything as an opportunity. Behind every obstacle lies the opportunity to learn something new, refine your skills and grow. 20 thinkers see how the problem can be solved and create new ways to achieve this.

Michael Jordan was cut from his basketball team. An 80% thinker would instantly have quit and looked for something else to do. Jordan saw this as an opportunity for him to refine his skills. It made him so mad, that he became so determined to be the best so this would never happen again. His failure inspired him to become one of the greatest athletes of all time and reach the pinnacle of the top 20%.

Money is a Limiting Factor to growth versus Money is  a Leverage for Growth

An 80 thinker allows money to determine their choices in life. They first look at the price of something and allow that to make their decision and stop their progression forward. A 20% thinker views money as a tool to increase their abundance and lifestyle. They first look at the value that will be received upon making the investment and then use that as a decision whether to use money as a leverage for growth.
An 80% person will see the price of a business at being $3,000, will scream daylight robbery and walk away. A 20% thinker will see that an investment of $3,000 will bring in monthly residual income that will grow every month that they grow their business and so will seize the opportunity. The price will never be the determining factor.

Comfort Zone and Work Harder versus Purpose  Sacrifice and Work Smarter

An 80% thinker has no defined purpose. They don’t know what it is they want to achieve and why. They don’t take the time to ask the right questions and find the right answers. A 20% thinker is connected to their purpose and is laser focused on achieving their goals.

In order to reach their goals a 20% thinker is willing to do whatever it takes to achieve them. They will make sacrifices. They will stay up late, work on weekends, take risks, give up TV and all tasks that do not serve their ultimate 20% purpose. An 80% thinker refuses to give up their ‘time’ or anything that requires getting a little uncomfortable. A 20% works smarter, by taking advantage of available resources,opportunities and leverage. An 80% works harder, usually by way of 2 or 3 jobs to make ends meet.

Inactive Fear Verses Courageous Action

A 20% thinker takes action. They get started on their attainment of their dreams and follow a blueprint of success to get there. 80% of people never start and this is why they fail and remain in the 80% of the population who work harder for only 20% of the world’s abundance. They never even start! 20 thinkers Just Do It!

How can you move from  the 80% group to the 20%

1  Recognize that there is such a distinction
2. Make a decision to live your purpose, make a difference and achieve incredible rewards as a result
3. Be willing to work smart and make sacrifices
4. Take action by starting at least and stepping into the 20% zone.
5.Follow those who are in the 20%, and allow them to mentor you to success. Learn all you can and surround yourself with positive and inspiring people.

They know what it’s like to be on a journey somewhere and are usually more than willing to share everything they know about creating success. Take full advantage of their knowledge and experience. Nothing will accelerate your evolution more than by being around these successful leaders and the environment in which they exist.

Take every opportunity you can find to hang out with self-made millionaires. Build relationships with them so that you have someone you can turn to by phone or email when you are in a bind and need direction. To achieve a goal takes courage and part of this courage is to stand up and do what the majority of people won’t do; walk up to a successful person and introduce yourself.

Make the first conversation you have with them memorable, make it light and real and have them forget for a moment that they are someone that somebody wants something from. You just want to have a chat and talk about things you have in common. Approaching it from this angle will prove to be more beneficial for you later, when the real masterminding is ready to begin.

Once you have built a relationship with your leaders, doors will open for you to mastermind with them more regularly. Napoleon Hill believed that a group of like-minded, achievement-oriented individuals could dramatically accelerate their success by leveraging each other’s talent. The truth of this has been proven over and over again.
When masterminding with others you are providing mutual support so this must be a two way street. Even though you are masterminding with the top leaders of your field, it does not mean that you do not have something worthwhile to contribute. Each mind presents a different way of looking at things.

Start a media fast by abstaining from watching the news, TV, newspapers, radio etc. Use this time instead to working on yourself in a positive manner. You’ll be amazed in your attitude and being simply by eliminating negative influences and replacing them with positive, empowering influences.

You should also be careful of the conversations you have with people. Always keep it on a positive and upbeat note and change the subject if it turns to a negative subject. The negative energy produced from negative conversations and people is something you do not want around you!

Becoming a student of Personal Development is an essential principle for success. You must make sure make a consistent commitment to do this daily. This will make a dramatic impact on your network marketing success.

In principle 1, we learned that knowing where you are going is vital to your success and visualization and gratitude will help bring it to you. However, meditating on a mountain top is not going to be enough. You also have to take action which leads us to principle number 2: Income Producing Activities

Let’s start by looking at the word ‘in-come’. Think of it terms of your goal in-coming to you. In order for your goal to
come-in there are certain activities you need to do to help produce that goal into your reality. Now usually when we talk about business, income producing activities means doing what brings the money in. But we can use this action step for any goal we set for ourselves. Income producing activities basically means performing the vital tasks each day that puts money on the table or takes weight of the hips. Prioritize your time so that each day you spend a couple of hours doing only these things.

In network marketing, income producing activities usually entails talking to people on the phone about your business opportunity, getting them on three ways and signing new associates up. It’s also going to mean performing your marketing tasks, which is an essential component of your business. It is also important for you to lead your team members and assist them do the same -all working together to build overall success.

When it comes time to take action, go to a quiet place so you can’t be disturbed. Forget about the filing of papers, the desk organizing, doing research or any of those ‘filler’ activities; which although may be useful, are not the powerhouse activities that will have you surging toward the completion of your goal.

Schedule a time each day to do your income producing activities and be consistent with it. Ask yourself ‘What am I willing to sacrifice in order to get my income producing activities done? This is a vital question for you to ask. If you want to achieve real results you have to sacrifice something. That is true for any goal you are working on. It might mean an hour less of TV or Facebook a day, getting up an hour earlier or losing some social time with family and friends.

Making the sacrifice shows that you are committed to being a network marketing success story. For any goal you want to achieve you must give up something in return in order to bring that to fruition. If you are not willing to make a sacrifice then you will never be a success in this business. It all comes back to what is your WHY? If your WHY is big enough you will easily make the sacrifice and you will commit to doing income producing activities daily in order to achieve your goals and become a network marketing success story.

Success in network marketing will come to you much easier when you follow certain success principles. These 5 principles I will be discussing over the next several blogposts. 

With any business or any task you take on in life it is essential to know where you are going. 

 “If you don’t know where you are going, you’ll end up someplace else.” Yogi Berra  

Knowing your destination will enable you to move in the right direction. This principle is really the foundation for all the other principles. They rely on this one to be effective. There are 3 steps involved in this principle.

1. Set Goals

When setting goals it is very important to get completely clear on what it is you want. One way to ensure your clarity is to focus on your why. Why do you want to have success in network marketing? What is the destination for? If it’s a million dollars you want – why do you want it? what will you use it for?

When it comes time to write your goals, be very specific and detail orientated. Write as if the goal has already been achieved. Put a time on it as to when you would like the goal to be achieved by and then add some extra power by writing how grateful you are to have it.Write your goal down on a card and carry it with you, reading it throughout the day many times. Doing this will help you to get back on track, stay focused during tough times and remind you of all the great things on their way to you.

2. Visualization: Moving from Goal Setting to Goal Getting

Every day you should take some quiet time to meditate and visualize your goals. When you visualize you need to see yourself already in the possession  of the goal you seek. The key here is repetition and consistency.

Visualizing can be done at any time of the day or night. It’s when you find a quiet time to really see in your mind’s eye, your life as you would like it to be. The key to visualization is to really make it come alive through your five senses, just like any great novelist would do.

The key to powerful visualization is the feelings you attach to it. Pretend that you have your goal right now. How do you feel? Now tap into these strong emotions and feel them deep down inside your core and don’t let go. Increase the strength and intensity and you will increase the power and certainty of achieving your goal!

3. Acknowledgement and Gratitude

It is important that throughout the whole journey of your goal actualization you stop to take time to acknowledge all your wins, big and small. Every goal will consist of smaller goals and steps you need to take to get to your final destination. Acknowledging your achievements will help to fuel your resolve and enthusiasm to keep moving forward in your network marketing business. It will help you to develop confidence and belief in yourself and your goals.

One aspect of acknowledgement is expressing gratitude.You will feel powerful and happy when you spend moments throughout the day in gratitude for all you have achieved in your network marketing business. When we are grateful for what we already have in life, it opens up the path to attract more. Expressing all you are thankful for everyday is an opportunity for you to tap into the power of gratitude – the King of All Virtues.

Remember, it is also very important to express gratitude with your intentions. This is when you give thanks for all the great things in your life that are on their way to you. Think about your goal and focus on it already being realized and give gratitude for its arrival. Act as if it is already yours through your thanks for it. The more thankful you are the more the Universe will bring you to be thankful for. Remember the more you can intensify the feelings of your thanks the more you can utilize the magic of the Universe to help bring what you want into existence.

If there is anything in this world that is important to you and is unique then you can guarantee that in your pursuit of it you are going to experience rejection by other people. This is a fact of life and even though we all know this we will do anything to avoid hearing that rejection.

This is where the majority of people on the planet go wrong. The most successful people are those that have managed rejection on a major scale. They don’t run from it or avoid it, they embrace it and understand that it is all a part of achieving massive results. Frustration is the biggest killer of dreams, rejection is the second biggest killer. Successful people have learned how to manage both.

Fred Smith is the originator of FED Ex. He first submitted the idea for Fed Ex to his Yale University College Professor who returned it with a C minus and the comment ‘Stupid idea! It will never work, why would anyone ever want to pay for overnight service?’

Fred Smith experienced massive amounts of frustration and rejection in getting FED EX up and running. It wasn’t easy for him and he nearly failed multiple times but he learned to thrive on frustration and overcoming rejection. He used this as the fuel to drive him forward. FED Ex is now a billion dollar a year enterprise. There is little that can stop you when you learn how to deal with rejection.

IF you look at any success story or successful person you will find they have overcome massive amounts of rejection. J.K Rowling’s Harry Potter was rejected 12 times before being taken on by a small publishing house and she is now richer than the Queen of England. Sylvester Stallone was told over 1,000 times that he looked stupid and sounded stupid and would never make it in the industry.

All these people and more knew that the key to success in life and the key to wealth and happiness is achieving massive amounts of rejection. The more rejection you’ll get, the more you’ll get acceptance and success. It’s a numbers game. The more people you talk to the more success you’ll get. Rejection is just part of the numbers.Until you learn to thirve on it and know that rejection is part of success you’ll never experience the success you desire.

So how do you best deal with rejection?

No matter what you are doing in life, the Law of Averages is going to work for you. If you do enough of what you are doing you’ll develop an average rate of success. Ask yourself ‘How many nos do you have to hear to get a yes? Then work out how much each no is worth to you. How do you do this? Find out how much your yes is worth and divide that by the number of nos you have to hear before you get to the yes.

For example let’s say your yes is worth $1,000. The Law of Averages tells you that you need to speak to 100 people to get a yes. $1,000 divided by 100= $10. So each no is $10 in the bank for you. Now when a person tells you no you can say ‘Great! I just earned $10!.’ This will help you to overcome the rejection and move forward. If you don’t do this then those small feelings of rejection will carry with you to the next person, they will sense that in you and will be more likely to reject you also.

Superstars are willing to handle massive amounts of frustration and massive amounts of rejection and that’s why so few people ever make it as they can’t manage these emotions. If you be one of these people that manage frustration and rejection then you’ll be a superstar in anything you do.


Trust is an issue that so many of us battle with in many different areas of our life. I’ve always found it difficult to trust in the Universe to help bring me what I want due to my limiting beliefs. Anthony Robbins is one of my favourite mentors. My inspirational blog and website Enjoy Wealth and Happpiness was named after what he says are the two things people want most in their lives.

Listening to a recording of his the other day, I discovered a brilliant analogy to help you deal with any difficulty you may have trusting yourself, the Universe or others you have relationships with. We usually allow trust to stop us in our tracks as an excuse to not move forward. Of course this is connected to fear, always the underlying motive. Watch the video above and use this analogy to help you just let go and trust.

Time management is key in our network marketing business. We need to be effective managers of time if we want true and long lasting success. It all comes back to your level of commitment. How committed are you to your dreams and success? If you are committed you will find the time to do what it is you need to get down to progress to the realization of your goals.

Life is extremely busy and we have a lot we need to fit in to our daily schedules and routines. An effective manager of time will utilize pockets of time throughout the day doing the daily routines to fit in tasks they need to get accomplished for their business.

I am a full time working mother but I am totally committed to my success. I’m committed to submitting one piece of content a day for the next 100 days. It is extremely time consuming but I’m committed so I find the time each day. As you’ll see in the video 5 minutes here and there such as travelling in the car can make a huge difference to your business.

Effective time management is the key to your success. Yossi Ghinsberg says it best:

‘Dreams are not meant for sleeping, they are there to keep you awake at night.’

Frustration is one of the biggest silent killers of dreams on the planet. It is what prevents most people from moving forward toward the achievement of their goals. Learning to manage your frustration is what’s going to keep you in your marketing business and get you moving ahead of the pack. If you don’t handle this emotion you are out of the game.

Frustration can very easily and quickly turn a positive attitude to a negative one. A negative attitude is disastrous for your day and success as it wipes out self-discipline and takes away the desire to even try to do what is necessary to make your online marketing business a success.

Have you ever heard yourself saying “Why even try anymore?”… “I tried my hardest, I was truthful. I was honest and still….” “Uugh, I just give up!” These are the thoughts of frustration and this is the silent killer of your dreams. Be very aware when you hear yourself uttering words such as these. Frustration has overtaken you and if you don’t manage it you’re done for.

You’ve got to know what to do when your high quality lead doesn’t show up for the follow up call as promised or your ad doesn’t work out and your website crashes and your email bounces for the umpteenth time.

How do we deal with these frustrating emotions that arrive in these moments? First, we need to understand, that in order to succeed in life, the formula for success is getting massive frustration! The more frustration you get the more successful you become. The more success you have the more you will be faced with frustrating challenges. You can’t escape the frustration, instead you have to learn to manage it.

You have to manage the frustration so it can motivate you. When you are frustrated it means you are getting ready to learn something new so get excited about that. To help break through frustration you have to realize that what is buried on the other side of frustration is success. So few people succeed because they can’t see this and as a result fail to handle this one emotion.

To deal with your frustration you have to learn how to turn it into fascination. To do this all you need to do is change your state of mind as that is all frustration and fascination are. You can change your state of mind in an instant. Here are 3 easy steps to do so.

1. Change your Physical State:

Do this now as you’re reading this. Sit as if you are really fascinated with what you are reading right now. (which I’m sure you were already sitting that way) Your probably leaning forward intently focused on what you’re reading, your eyebrows are raised, you feel light and open to hearing what I’ve got to say. You know that my communication with you is leading you to a great new awareness. There you go, you changed your physical state in an instant- easy right?

2. Change Your Conversations with Yourself:

When something happens that frustrates you change what you say to yourself. Turn it into “Wow! Isn’t that fascinating?” and think about what is fascinating about it. So when your high quality lead doesn’t show up for your follow up call say, “Wow! Isn’t that fascinating? I wonder why he didn’t. He must have had something really important to do to stop him from not being there!”

Changing your words to that of fascination allows you to remove the frustration and continue on with your marketing business.
3. Change the Picture in your Mind

Take the picture of what is frustrating you in your mind and make it smaller. Push it behind you, turn it into black and white, change it’s movement and volume. Doing this will shrink your frustrations and allow you to visualize the ultimate success that is waiting on the other side for you. This is the bigger picture for you to focus on. You might feel really silly doing this at first and you may not believe it but this is how you manage your frustrations, so you will make it work if you want success.

Frustration is a silent killer of dreams and goals. Putting yourself into a fascinated state allows you to take action. By remaining frustrated you stay inactive and this is not the place from where dreams happen. Learn to deal with frustration and you will succeed in your online marketing business and any dream you wish to pursue.
